Welcome to our town!

The City of Green Lake and surrounding towns are rich in history. The lake was known to numerous Native American tribes as spiritual waters in which they visited and celebrated for many years. The town was established in 1847 as the village of Dartford. By the 1860’s visitors from around the Midwest discovered the area as a refreshing resort community. By the 1890’s fishing, golfing and sailing were already well established in this small community, and continue today. Green Lake has become a picturesque destination for vacationers from all over the country and is home to over 1,000 residents. Our quaint down town is nestled on the shores of the lake and located in the south-central area of Wisconsin, only a two/three-hour drive from larger metropolitan cities within the state.

Although the City comes alive in the summer months with concerts in the park and on-going special events, the Chamber of Commerce, Town Square, Thrasher Opera House, and non-profit agencies offer residents and visitors year-round events such as Harvest Festival, wine walks, triathlons, the Wisconsin Chili Cook-Off, art festivals, fishing events, and children’s holiday events. The City’s park system provides access to the water at three boat ramps plus a canoe launch at the Puckyan River, a swimming beach, and a public campground. In addition, the parks are dog friendly. The City is a walkable community, and is also a great place for bike riding. A dedicated bike path from Green Lake to Ripon was just recently completed, in addition from Green Lake to the Green Lake Conference Center. If biking is not your thing, our golf courses are top in the state. The lake offers water sports, boating, fishing. Our downtown is a great place for shopping and grabbing a bite to eat. Come visit us and stay at one of the many resorts, hotels, and B&Bs.
